Before you come for an MOT test
Before you take your vehicle for an MOT test, we recommend that you carry out a few quick and easy checks to give your car the best chance of passing the test. It could save you time and money and only takes a little of your time and requires little knowledge about you car other than that required to undertake the normal pre-driving checks.
If you do find anything wrong that you are unable to rectify yourself, the Alastair Reid Garages will be happy to help, before the test. Let us know in advance so we can complete the work required before the test is carried out.
Lights - check that all lights are working properly, including headlights, sidelights, rear lights, brake lights and indicators.
Number plate - ensure that the number plate is clean and legible.
Tyres - check that tyres are undamaged. Check the tread depth and that there is no damage or cracking on the sidewalls. If you are not sure about how much tread is left on a tyre, let us know when you arrive and we can check the tyre for you.
Seats and seatbelts - The driving seat should adjust forwards and backwards and all seatbelts must be in good working order.
Windscreen - check for cracks, chips and ensure the view out of the front is clear.
Windscreen wipers make sure wipers are in good condition, no tears or holes in the wiper rubber.
Screenwash - Make sure that the screenwash is topped up and working.
Horn - test the horn to make sure its working.
These few simple checks can improve your chances of passing an MOT, save you time and make the whole experience much more pleaseant.
